I am not old but I have lived long enough to learn the pitfalls of debt. Also age is based on a person's perspective. I have implemented some strategies for getting out of debt in the past. I try to stay on top of that not just at the beginning of the New Year but all year long. One thing that has helped me is paying cash. As I see that money leave my wallet I tend to spend less. I try to keep cash on me because I spend less. Recently, I have taken my cards out of my wallet. It helps me spends because I do not have them with me. The other idea that has been helpful is paying the bill all at one time if possible, if you cannot pay it all at once break it up in payments. It may take you several months or years to come completely out of debt. The wonderful thing is, it is achievable. What are some of your ideas for reducing debt?

I think the cash thing is the best way to not get into debt because you can only spend what you have. As far as reducing debt it's all about bringing more in and that's what I've been trying to do. It nice to get ahead on bills so instead of spending any extra money that you may get put that directly to bills.

Pay off bills that accrue interest first. Cut back on all unnecessary spending. Change your lifestyle so that you spend less in certain categories (ie. go to discount retailers or shop at thrift stores).

I haven't incurred a debt. What do I do? I only buy needs. I never bought any want.
