Day 122
Proverbs 15:24
Proverbs 15:24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
If you ask people whether they are going to heaven or hell, most will tell you they want to or believe they are going to heaven. A few will tell you they don’t believe in either, and then there will be those who know for certain they are going to heaven.
Solomon referred to those people who put their faith and trust in God as wise, and in doing so they lived their lives knowing that one day they would be with God for eternity.
God gave Adam and Eve the promise of a Savior when they sinned in the Garden of Eden. That promise along with the law God gave Moses gave Israel hope when their enemies came against them. They saw God’s hand of provision and judgment, especially in the wilderness when God punished his people for their disobedience. God opened the earth so those disobedient to him were swallowed alive, which also gave his people the belief that Hell was beneath and Heaven was above.
God’s promise of a Savior was in the hearts and minds of his people from birth to death. Until Jesus’ birth, they died with the promise in their hearts, trusting that God would keep his promise to his people.
Today, we see God’s promise fulfilled in the birth, death, and resurrection of his Son, Jesus Christ. We no longer look forward to the promise, but we have the proof of the promise fulfilled in the resurrection and the empty tomb.
Jesus’ death and resurrection means salvation for all mankind. When you accept the finished work of the cross, Jesus’ blood poured out for you to cleanse you from all your sin, then salvation is yours. You are one of the wise people Solomon talked about because your way of life is different from those who haven’t accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord and are on their way to Hell.
As Christians, you have the assurance of salvation, of life with Jesus in heaven. You have the certainty of knowing, not just wanting, or hoping you will go to heaven, but you know you are going to heaven.
Have you made that all important decision to accept Jesus as Savior and Lord? Do you know you are going to heaven? Or do you hope you will, but aren’t sure? You can know that certainty today by accepting Jesus as your Savior and Lord. Your life will never be the same and you will know beyond knowing that you will go to heaven when your life here is finished.
Let’s pray: Father, help me show others how much you loved them by sending Jesus to be their Savior. Let your love for them guide them to the cross and the assurance of salvation. Let them know you as Savior and Lord so they will know of a certainty that they will be in heaven with you when this life is finished. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
