Is having a roof top garden too far fetched?

Imagine having a penthouse suite in Manhattan. You would be able to grow your veggies up on the roof top in a roof top garden. More about this idea below in a link for you to take a look at: New York may have been the first place the idea came to light. But in any case, do you know someone who has access to a rooftop garden? Let me know your experiences on this.
Watchful airline passengers landing at Dallas Love Field sometimes get a bird's-eye view of an exclusive Uptown garden.

One can grow a small garden anywhere they can put a small planter or find some decent dirt. I'm all for community gardens, whether they be in an empty lot, beside railroad tracks, or on a Manhattan rooftop!

This is something that should be expanded on ASAP. Great stuff. The idea of turning abandoned empty lots into glory gardens is funtastic.

@lookatdesktop When I was on the Long Island Railroad, heading out to my Auntie's place, I noticed a lot of gardens near the tracks. I thought that was pretty cool.

Having a roof garden is a very good idea, even one can have real organic veggies and herbs fresh. My brother was very fond of terrace garden and was also looking for a house in Long Beach New York ocean view with terrace and recently purchased one from a listing site, http://www.topperrealestate.com/?in_listing=4965206&brs=MLSLI at a very good price. The house he purchased has a beautiful garden in front of house so he finally had to cancel the thought of building a terrace garden. But I feel that having a roof garden can make the ceiling of your house weak.

Not only would it be a good idea but it would be an economic boost. Self sufficient neighborhoods that have co-op gardens.

if you have the space, why not..they just have to make sure not to put too much weight on the roof.. i really don't know anyone with a flat enough roof to do so..but if mine were,i'd do it. plus it would keep people and critters out of it.

Would it be your very own garden or could others go up there? If it were you own that would be ideal because you could have fun up there.
