The gentleman sitting at #3 in my Favorite "Fly" Songs series is making his first appearance in one of my music countdowns: "Fly Away" by Lenny Kravitz. Multi instrumentalist and vocalist Lenny Kravitz began recording professionally in 1988,and is still at it. Kravitz is a four time Grammy Award winner, as well as a recipient of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres Medal, awarded for "significant contribution to the French Cultural Inheritance." Not familiar with his music? You might recognize Lenny from his role as Cinna in The Hunger Games films. (Fun Fact: You might already know that Kravitz' mom was Roxie Roker, who played Helen on the TV show The Jefferson's, but did you know that Today Show weatherman Al Roker is his cousin?) From his 1998 Double Platinum album 5 (which spent three years on the Billboard 200 chart,) "Fly Away" was an international hit, charting in several countries, including #1 in the UK and #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song won Kravitz a Grammy for Best Male Rock Performance. The video for "Fly Away" is great. Unfortunately, it's a bit suggestive for MyLot purposes, so I didn't link to it. Enjoy the song! Fly Away was a bit hit for Kravitz. He produced a CD for Vanessa Paradis. He could rock when he wanted to.

Yeah, he seems to be able to effortlessly move between different styles.

I remember loving this song so much when it came out.. And I still love it! I still jam to it haha. Truthfully, though, that is the only song I know by Kravitz (I think) besides maybe American Woman, which I know is a cover. I gotta go look up some more of his music.

I like the song, too, although it's one of his more simplistic tunes. It's very catchy and has a great guitar riff--very distinctive! I knew he played Cinna, but I didn't know about his mom. I do know that his daughter, Zoe Kravitz, is his child by Lisa Bonet and is also an actress--she is in Mad Max:Fury Road and also in the Divergent series.

And here I expected that smarmy, lame John Denver/Olivia Newton-John "Fly Away" from the mid-70s. Thank you so much for disappointing me!
