Family Fun Day

United States
January 15, 2017 10:32pm CST
Tomorrow will be my youngest son's 9th birthday. So today we went out and had some family fun.. partly to celebrate, partly because we haven't really done much lately and needed to get out of the house and have some fun! First we went out to dinner at a restaurant that recently opened up at the mall called Margaritaville. It looked pretty cool, it's themed like a tropical island with palm trees and sand and pictures of paddle boarding, etc. The music was pretty cool too, mostly Jimmy Buffet stuff and the like. After that we went to a place called Dave & Busters, which is sort of like a huge arcade. I had coupons for this, that's the only reason we went. I'm not really fond of arcades, I find it to be a waste of money.. but that's just me, I've never been into video games or anything like that. The kids had fun though. We headed home.. but I felt like doing some more.. so we decided to go bowling for a bit. We've discovered that none of us can bowl well. Hubby got the best overall score during our second game, he scored 101. I barely broke 50! All in all it was a fun day.. and we desperately needed a bit of excitement as things have been so blah lately with the cold temperatures and lack of money after the holidays! Have you gone out and had some fun lately?

It sounds like y'all had a great day! Our youngest daughter's birthday party was today at home and tomorrow we're taking the kids to mini golf to celebrate with just our family. =)

I see commercials for Dave & Busters all the time, but have never been. It's so cool you guys got to hang out like that for some family fun.

I had coupons, that's the only reason we went. We went a few years ago to celebrate the twins winning a spelling bee, and I wasn't impressed, so we didn't bother going back. But they're big sponsors of the local professional soccer team so I got a $10 gift card and a bunch of coupons when we went to a soccer game last month.

That is really something all families must do once in a while. Having a balance is really very good. I love it when we have work, love, and play, all in balance.

I'd like it better if work didn't have to be part of the balance

@annierose Well.. I guess that depends on your definition of survival. We could survive in a homeless shelter, but we probably wouldn't like it very much.

@katsmeow1213 But we need it or else we cannot survive.

Happy belated birthday to your son! Wow, that's a lot of cool things to do in a day! My son's birthday was back in early November and because of our crazy schedule, we couldn't do anything for him back then either. So we decided to go to Disneyland after Christmas for him - but as a partial Christmas present to ourselves too. No more big trips like that for a while .

It sounds like a lovely day. I haven't planned anything exciting since Christmas holidays. Bowling is a great idea for a fun night out, we might plan a bowling night soon.

Happy Birthday to your 9-year-old! It sounds as if it was a nice time. I don't care much for arcades myself, but the kids love them. I have not been bowling in ages. I bet that would be a hoot for our family as well.

@katsmeow1213 We went to a Chuckee Cheese party a couple of years ago and Lil Keith had a ball. He was in the zone. I was surprised that it was not as expensive as I had remembered it. $10 went a long way on the games. He also got something, like $10 worth of tokens from the party as well.

Cool! When we celebrate birthdays we hardly went outdoors but instead we cook foods and invites the friends of the birthday celebrant. I went out last week to buy the books that I want to read for this week... And I am reading the fourth book.

A family fun day is always a good idea. We don't have a Dave & Busters here, but there is plenty to do.

I am not a fan of Dave & Busters anyway.. I only went because we had coupons.

My fun is going to the Y every day...We took our kids bowling when they were young and had a blast with them. I was in a woman's Bowling league in Kansas but never did ti once we got to Canada...Our favorite bar when we moved here had a play room for the kids and it was full of arcade machines and it was free...

Happy 9th birthday to your son! You certainly did a lot of fun family things. I'm sure he will have cake today! I had fun going out with my hubby, brother, sis in law, and their dog for pizza and back here for a wonderful football game on TV.

Actually he chose a strawberry cream pie. For dinner I'm going to make chocolate chip pancakes.
