TV Review Sherlock The Final Problem

Spoiler alerts Given that this is widely believed to be the last ever episode of the Sherlock Holmes 21st Century reboot series fans would have expected it to go out on an all out high. Sadly, it was terrible, and not so much Final Problem as Last Straw or Sherlock Jumps The Shark. It was highly derivative and totally unbelievable. His long-lost sister had taken over the island fortress asylum that seemed to exist just to contain her, and she could leave and return whenever she wanted. Though it was owned by his family, Sherlock had to turn pirate and break onto the island James Bond style to start his investigation. He, Shylock and Watson faced a seres of potentially fatal locked room trap puzzles to solve. What we end up with was Sherlock goes to Shutter Island to play Jigsaw Games right out of Saw - Mycroft conveniently stuck in a side cell after the trio are tranquilized - Neither Watson or Holmes spotting Jane Bond's last DVD until the closing narration even though it wasn't even hidden - a chance for everyone to come out to say goodbye as if it was the swan song it probably is - Holmes using deductions that are invisible to the audience so there is no chance of us spotting the clues and cracking the case ourselves though I thought right away that the little girl wasn't on a plane at all, it was just The Impossible Girl stuck in a dalek all over again (a reference an earlier Moffat scripted story from Dr Who). The only neat touch was Moriarty as the clock counter - but a trap set in five minutes years before - the sister instantly brainwashing people was silly - she'd have to be an alien, not just dead clever and insane . Also, the glass that wasn't there actually had reflections and dust prints on it minutes before the reveal that it wasn't there - thought Holmes and his Sister were going to do the Marx Brothers duck Soup mirror routine Youtube The Duck Soup Mirror sketch Arthur
Hilarious.... and all done in the days before special effects. A truly classic piece of comedy.

@arthurchappell Very disappointing indeed. Wish I hadn't watched it.

@xFiacre me too, it was full of nonsense like throwing a rope to a man chained to a wall in a flooding well, and Holmes who can spot cat hairs on a coat sleeve failing to see a window has no glass in it when right in front of it

Well at least I noticed that this was on this week and recorded it. Need to watch the other two episodes first.
