The seeds of this latest series were sewn last night in a post by @TRBRocks420 , who triggered an idea. Pretty much everyone has favorite bands and songs. Well, some of us even have favorite record labels. I'm one of them. Hence, my Favorite Independent Record Labels countdown. We'll begin with #10, Ninja Tune. Known as electronic act Coldcut, Matt Black and Jonathan More formed Ninja Tune in London in 1990. Like most independent labels run by musicians, Ninja Tune was founded to get away from the stifling creative control of the major labels, and as a way to release music that might not otherwise see the light of day. Among other things, Ninja Tune owns it's own publishing company, Just Isn't Music, and acts as distributor for sister labels Big Dada, Brainfeeder, Werkdiscs, and Girls Music. Specializing in electronic, dance, hip hop, and experimental music, Ninja Tune's roster, has, over the years, included quite a few acts of which I am quite fond, including 9 Lazy 9, Funki Porcini, The Cinematic Orchestra, Skalpel, and Wagon Christ. Granted, I haven't heard every single album released by Ninja Tune, but I've heard a lot of them. Everything I've heard has been good. As it should be! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Never heard of this label or this song, but taking a listen to this song, and sounds great man! Kind of like a mix of electronic or something then cool jazz drums, really neat!

@teamfreak16 I like them! :) Very nice. Acid jazz, cool, I have heard of that particular sub-genre, I believe from you before.. Sounds like something I should try to search in to some more!

9 Lazy 9 are great. A couple of German guys. They started out as an acid jazz band.

I sometimes wonder how easy it would be to start a label and is it easier if you are a known star.

I don't know. A lot of punk bands have started them over the years, and they aren't really well known outside of punk fans.

I have been known to buy albums without listening to them first just because they were on a certain label.

That style of music is definitely not for everyone.

This is an original theme. I never think in terms of record labels except Motown or Sun.

I've bought a lot of music over the years just because it was on a certain label.
