Another series comes to a close. This one has been a dual series of songs featuring "night" and "day" in the titles. I saved the absolute best for last. Here's my favorite "night" song.
#1: Night Life - Ray Price
Wow. Wow. Wow.
This song is the perfect combination of a well-written song -- by a very hungry Willie Nelson (who sold the rights to it for $150 so he could have rent and food money) -- and a jaw-dropping bluesy delivery by the legendary "Cherokee Cowboy," Ray Price.
That Buddy Emmons steel opening makes you think you're about to listen to a country song, but Price's smoky delivery takes you to the world where you can "listen to the blues they're playin', yeah, listen to what the blues are sayin'."
This is one of the best songs Willie Nelson ever wrote (and, given the long list of things he wrote, that's quite a claim for someone to make)...and definitely one of the best deliveries Ray Price ever gave.
Listen, and enjoy.
Thanks for reading.
