I can’t seem to catch up with this, but here we go again. I found a few things of interest for January 13.
January 13, 1864: Composer, Stephen Foster died in New York
January 13, 1962: Comedian, Ernie Kovacs, died in a car crash in Los Angeles. I don’t remember this, but I was in Okinawa when it happened, so it may not have been on the news.
January 13, 1966: President Johnson appointed Robert C. Weaver, the first black Cabinet member, as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
January 13, 1982: An Air Florida 737 crashed into the 14th Street Bridge shortly after takeoff and fell into the Potomac River, in Washington D.C. 78 people died.
January 13, 1990: I remember this well, since it happened right here in Richmond, Virginia. L. Douglas Wilder became the first elected black governor in the U.S.
What about January 14th?
January 14, 1784: The Revolutionary War ended between the U.S. and England.
January 14, 1969: An explosion on the U.S. aircraft carrier, Enterprise, killed 25 crew members. That was almost 50 years ago. It doesn’t seem possible. I remember it well.
I didn’t find very many notable things for this date.
