Jewish History

The Holocaust is a well-known and well-documented part of history. The atrocities committed against the Jews and other persons in Europe during the Third Reich are undeniable. Many graphic scenes of this era were photographed and published worldwide. However, I was totally unaware of another part of history that involved the Jews. While most of us are familiar with the history of Spain’s Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand and their part in financing Columbus’s expedition, in 1492, I was surprised to learn that they forcibly exiled Spain’s 200,000 Jews in that same year. The Spanish Inquisition involved an effort to rid Spain of Muslims, Jews and other "infidels," as they were considered by Queen Isabella, beginning in 1480 until 1834. I am going to do some more research on this, because I had no knowledge of this until this week. Where did the Jews in Spain go? What was the reason behind it? Do you know?

What a privilege for the Jews to be 'God's chosen people' but what a price they have paid for it over the years.

@IreneVincent The Bible does not say that the Christians replaced the Jews only that they were grafted into the Jewish branch. He made many promises to the Jews some of which are yet to come to pass. He has not broken His covenant with them but he has established a new covenant to non Jews.

@IreneVincent The promises to the Jews were made to Abraham Gen 12 v.2-3 'all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you' that is the old Abrahamic covenant. Jeremiah 31 .31-37 is 'a new covenant' a promise which has not yet come into being. Jesus hints at this in Matt.23 when they will realise that he is their Messiah. In Rev. 7 we read about 144,000 Israelites who are described as the servants of God. That is yet to come in relation to the judgement that God is going to bring on the earth. Roman 11v.17 Paul is reproving the Romans for being arrogant and tells them that they (the Gentiles) have been grafted into the olive root (Israel). The olive root being Israel - the cultivated olive tree, and the Gentiles (the branches of the wild olive).

I don't know the part about the exile, but I have heard that Isabella and Ferdinand were horrible despots.

I tend to agree with that assumption.
