Ten Favorite Morning Songs: Morning Sky (#10)

It was a wild weekend....wilder than anything Bill Anderson ever sang about! Three concerts, then a long day at work, then the family fiasco yesterday (which was promptly forgotten about thanks to a great Junior Brown concert) has made me covet the return to the rut. Back in my rut, I'm ready to count down my ten favorite "morning" songs -- songs with the word morning in the title. Here's the first. #10: Morning Sky - Dan Fogelberg I had a friend ask me why I have Dan Fogelberg's name in my list of country birthdays on my blog. My reply: "Ever listened to 'Morning Sky'?" In reality, this song is more progressive bluegrass than country. The drums are there (a no-no in Bill Monroe's world of bluegrass), but the banjo work of Al Perkins is something that would have bluegrass festival attendees cheering. There's also terrific harmonies (Fogelberg overdubbed). And the kicker? This was produced by Joe Walsh. Holy funk 49, Batman!
