Perhaps Balenciaga's handbag design comes from China

Balenciaga has a new set of handbags. http://www.balenciaga.com/us/women/handbags Frankly, it is amusing for me since this kind of bag is quite common in China for many years. In China these bags are usually very big and they are made of plastic. It is more common to see them in the railway station. Some poor Chinese use these bags to pack their belongings. They can put many things inside and carry them. It is convenient and less expensive compares to the luggages.

They are quite large and would be handy to carry belongings in.

I have seen bags like this but they do not look very sturdy to me. They are quite ugly as well but if you are poor enough things like that won't matter.
