Favorite Independent Record Labels #4 - Wax Trax!

We are at #4 in my Favorite Independent Record Labels, and it's the only label in the countdown with a tie to my beloved state of Colorado: Chicago's Wax Trax! Wax Trax! started as Wax Trax Records, a small record store in Denver (and what a great store it is! I can't even begin to calculate how much money I've spent in that place.) In 1980, owners Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher sold the store, headed to Chicago, opened a Wax Trax Records there, and formed what would become THE industrial music label (you can also find electronic and experimental music from them, but it was industrial music that put the label on the map.) At one time or another, Wax Trax! has released records by a literal who's who of the industrial genre, and this is just a sample: Ministry, Front 242, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, KMFDM, and Controlled Bleeding. Interestingly, Wax Trax! filed for bankruptcy and was purchased by TVT Records, which kept the label going for awhile before folding it. Jim Nash's daughter Julia brought Wax Trax! back to life in 2014. Wax Trax Records still exists at it's corner of 13th and Washington in Denver. And it's still just as cool as you think that a record store that spawned a great label would be. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I wonder if they expanded too quickly? Pity about the financial problems, who knows where they could have taken it

Yeah, and in a quick check, I couldn't find why they went bankrupt.

I know. It would have been a shame to lose it like that.

Controlled Bleeding is awesome. An ex girlfriend hated them, which makes them even better.
