Very near and dear to my heart. That's what #2 in my Favorite Independent Record Labels series is: Acid Jazz. Acid Jazz was formed in London by Gilles Peterson and Eddie Piller in 1987. The term "acid jazz" was coined by DJ Chris Bangs, who would become a producer as well as release material on the label. The genre itself was comprised of young, jazz loving musicians that also were in to other forms of music, which they would incorporate into their jazz. The Acid Jazz label gave many of those bands a home. One way the label promoted their roster was through a fantastic series of compilation CD's called This is Acid Jazz, which were just as worth purchasing as the featured band's actual albums. Over the years, the label has released albums by a hell of a lot of my favorite acid jazz acts, such as Quiet Boys (led by Chris Bangs,) Emperor's New Clothes, A Man Called Adam, Disjam, James Taylor Quartet, and Night Trains. And that's just a sample. Oh man, do I love this label! (Info verified by Wikipedia, Acid Jazz)

I know "James Taylor" is a common name, but I envisioned acid jazz versions of "Carolina in My Mind" and "Fire and Rain" when I saw that listed.

Can you imagine if he had done that? His fans would have been like "What the hell is this?" I would have dug it.
