To go along with the list of songs that mention various times of day I'm counting down my favorite morning songs. A little spoiler alert: this is the last rock song on the "morning" countdown. And here it is for your enjoyment. #4: Birdcall Morning - Joe Walsh Those addicted to "FM classic rock" probably only know this guy for "Rocky Mountain Way," "Walk Away" or "Funk 49" from his James Gang days, and maybe "Life's Been Good." There's way, way, way more to Joe Walsh than those songs (just as there's more to just about everyone else who's relegated to two songs on the radio). Joe Walsh doing a ballad, for instance? Sure, why not. After all, if you remember back to song #10 on this list, he produced a Dan Fogelberg album (Souvenirs). His work with the Eagles more or less began on the balled "Help Me Through the Night" from So What (and that's not the same as the Kris Kristofferson song "Help Me Make It Through the Night" that Sammi Smith had a big hit with in 1970). For all the loud guitars and talk boxes, there's a sensitive side to Joe Walsh. And that includes this gorgeous song from his first post-James Gang album. Combining an acoustic guitar and his trademark slide work to open the song, Walsh shows some of his best songwriting ever ("early birdcall morning in a milkweed cloudy sky sets me free without a warning"). This is sadly one of Walsh's most obscure songs. It should be, in my opinion, one of his biggest hits. Track 6 from the pictured album; a great one. Enjoy

Sometimes the best songs aren't necessarily the hits.

Boy, was that a stroll down memory lane. Long ago and far away. Thanks for the lovely reminder.
