how do you maintain a friendship with someone you have a huge disagreement with?

Do you have any experience being friends with someone that you have fundamental disagreements with about social/political issues that you both feel very passionate about? How to you handle that?

The disagreements is what makes us friends. Why would I want to be around people who think like me all the time. Sameness makes for boring get togethers.

I try to keep in mind that I have to just agree to disagree. Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion.
