I took a day off, but we are at #2 in my Favorite Female Cyclists series: Missy Giove.
A former nationally ranked downhill skier, Missy Giove was a downhill mountain bike racer during mountain biking's heyday in the 1990's, most of which she rode for the mighty Volvo Cannondale team. Missy was the World Downhill Champion in 1994, and a three time NORBA (America) National Downhill Champ (she holds the all time record for NORBA wins with 14,) and a two time World Cup Champion (4th all time with 11 World Cup victories.)
One of mountain biking's more colorful characters, Giove was known for an outgoing personality and wild, colorful hairstyles. Oh, and she also wore a necklace of the skeleton of her dead pet piranha when she raced!
This I knew: After she retired, Missy helped finance young, promising downhiller's by paying travel expenses and entry fees for them.
This I did not know: In 2009, Missy Giove was arrested on charges of conspiring to possess and distribute 384 pounds of marijuana. In 2011, she was sentenced to time served, six months home detention, and five years supervised release.
Missy was fearless, and fast as hell. She was a blast to watch.

@teamfreak16 I sure didn't! But I admit to not following competitive bicycling or motorcycling.

@TheHorse - The only time they show the women, it seems, is during the Olympics.

I think she's from New York. I know she used to deliver Chinese food on her bike there.

@teamfreak16 If she was cycling the streets of Manhattan, no wonder she was tough.
