FLU!

United States

I woke this morning feeling run down. The blame was given to the fact that I woke several times in the night to blow my stuffed up nose. Called my doctor at 8:00 to get an appointment for today because I was certain I had a sinus infection. Let the scheduler at work know that I would see the first two clients, but doubtful I would be able to see the last client because I was run down. My appointment was at 11 and I left my last client early because I was so fatigued. I didn't want to stay and get her sick either. Once at the doctor's office, they gave me a nifty face mask to wear. I looked so lovely. The nurse weighed me, took my blood pressure, and temperature, and asked a million questions. Then she took a swab from my sinus cavity. The test she said would take 15 minutes. When the Nurse Practitioner came in, she went over my chart and the nurse's notes with me then went out to check the culture. The test was positive for flu. Now I had convinced myself that I couldn't get the flu because I had a flu shot in December. The NP told me that you could still get the flu even with a shot, but the symptoms wouldn't be as severe. I was prescribed Tamiflu, a decongestant, saline rinse, and told to use a neti pot to rinse my sinuses. I believe only Tamiflu is covered by my insurance. That will please my husband, because he is the one picking up the prescriptions. He will have to pay for them. So here I sit with a hot cup of tea, a box of tissues, and hand sanitizer. I am covered with a warm blanket to ward off the chills, with my feet up in the recliner, with my laptop to keep me company for the next 4 days. I cannot go back to work until I am feeling better. Monday is the earliest I can go back, but cannot have a fever. Practicing good hand hygiene is important. Getting a flu shot is also important. However, just remember that even with these precautions, you can still get the flu.

She said I had "b", not sure what that means. I only know I feel like I have been hit by a train.

@Jessicalynnt yes, that is what it is. So I guess it means I have a headache from hell, eyes feel like they are bugging out, coughing, sneezing, and body aches.

I am trying my best not to overdo it. Hubby is picking up my meds so I don't have to run for them. But, I still have to do laundry and other things. I am right back on the couch with the blanket once I do then necessary tasks though.

@fishtiger58 the housework will be there when I am well enough to do it. I prepared a simple meal for my husband's dinner and it knocked the wind out of my sails. Told my husband he could cook dinner tomorrow.

If I could breathe and not ache so much I would be okay. But, can't go anywhere, can't work, so I have to focus on getting better. How are you and your hubby doing Jennifer?

We never get shots, but do keep our hands and house clean. We also eat a ton of veggies daily along w/fruit. Wonder if that helps, b/c we do not get sick. Don't remember being sick for 15 years or more.

I've been getting the flu shot for over 10 years now. This is the first time I have come down with it. I wash my hands and use hand sanitizer when I can't use soap and water. Even so, here I am. Ugh.

I take my time doing the household tasks. I'll spend more time relaxing and gaining my strength back. This is zapping me.

I wonder how many people there are who have gotten the shot and came down with the flu and didn't know it. I was just going to push through the fatigue and keep going.

I got a note from the doc to excuse me from work. I don't want to infect my clients with this either.
