I’m still playing catch-up with my daily history facts. Here’s some things I found out about January 19th. I’m going to have to do more than two days at a time to catch up. January 19, 1736: James Watt, who invented the steam engine, was born in Scotland. January 19, 1807: Robert E. Lee, commander-in-chief of the Confederate armies, was born in Stratford, Virginia. January 19, 1809: Edgar Allen Poe was born in Boston. There is an Edgar Allen Poe museum here in Richmond, VA, because he lived here for a few years. January 19, 1966: Indira Gandhi was elected as prime minister of India. January 19, 1977: Snow fell for the first time in history in Miami, Florida What about January 20th? January 20, 1841: Hong Kong was cede to the British January 20, 1961: John F. Kennedy was inaugurated. January 20, 1996: Arafat was elected as leader of Palestine January 20, 1993: Audrey Hepburn died today January 20, 1981: Ronald Reagan became U.S. President today Can you add anything to this list?
