In 1986 I was working part time, going to physical therapy due to some medical issues.
And I was raising two son's as a single parent, they were school age and were either in school, in an event (boy scouts, baseball, bowling, church, whatever) or outside playing with friends.........maybe even in their room's playing video games or watching TV.
I was bored
and started thinking about this picture that my grandmother had on her wall of a woman that she said was one of her grandmother's and was full blood Cherokee. So I decided to start working on my family tree and find out who this woman was.
I have been researching, found a lot of distant family, some that were my friends or neighbors and it turned out that we were related, lol
. I have written a genealogical book on my family, met my late husband. We had family reunions too, that were fun!
But......... I still have not found out who that woman was!!!!!!
Any ideas?

I am at least a 5th generation genealogist and have been researching family history since 1978. Many Americans have been told that they have Native American (especially Cherokee) blood, but often that isn't true. She does not look Native American to me, but that does not mean that she wasn't descended from one. We inherit 50% of our DNA from our mothers and 50% of our DNA from our fathers, and the DNA that we inherit is not the same DNA that our siblings (if we have any) inherit. So, even if you do have Cherokee ancestry, you may not have Cherokee DNA. But, there is a way to find out. Yes, it costs money (which is why I haven't done mine yet), but that DNA test from Ancestry.com should be able to tell you. I will be having mine and my son's done for my birthday in a few months.
AncestryDNA™ is the newest DNA test which helps you find genetic relatives and expand your genealogy research. Order your DNA test kit today.

Yes, I have an ancestry account and I am planning to do the DNA test thru them. A niece about 10 months ago had me do a free test done via a university and it basically just told everybody that took it that we were European. Then my cousin wanted me to have one done with her thru another company and they do not tell where, just link you to a bunch of other people that did the test thru them that we are a match too?????? Why does my sister not have the same DNA? We have the same parents.
