I'm Not Very Hopeful About This Vacation

This morning, I went to the Canada Post website to check the tracking number on our passports that we sent January 14th but was told wouldn't be mailed out until the 16th because it was a Saturday. When I entered what I thought was the tracking number I got a message indicating the package had not been delivered. This parcel went XpressPost. I wanted to cry. I decided to call Canada Post and after punching in several numbers I finally got a person on the other end of the line. He was very friendly. As it so happens, the number I was keying in, though the website said it was a valid tracking number, was NOT in fact the tracking number. The number I was supposed to be keying in was indicated as the Customer Receipt. Anyway, he was able to confirm that the parcel was delivered and signed for on the 18th. Many people from Canada have told me that they have received their new passports, even NEW applications (as opposed to renewals) within 2 weeks. I decided to call the passport office. Of course a recording indicated a high volume of calls and I could wait or try later. In the meantime I was told that passport applications sent through the mail service would take 20 days plus mailing days from the time of receipt by the passport office. I want to cry. Yesterday my husband asked me if we had received the passports yet. I snapped at him that we wouldn't be in this position if he had informed me he had booked vacation days off work and I could have checked off a date of travel instead of "unknown". I'm not going to sit on hold on the phone only to be told the same thing the recording told me. And my husband has informed me that two of his sisters are coming HERE at the beginning of March. So, unless we do get our passports, oh, let's say Monday, it doesn't look like we'll be going anywhere. And all this has made me po'd at my husband because he didn't tell me... and he left the passport situation up to me. As soon as I told them they were expired he should have had me jumping all over it instead of leaving the paperwork sitting on the coffee table for two weeks.
