Former Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Weiters, 30, who became a free agent at the end of the 2016 Major League Baseball season has drawn the interest of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Orioles decided not to offer Weiters a one year, $17.2 million dollar qualifying offer at the end of the 2016 baseball season and Weiters became an unrestricted free agent. Even though the Brewers recently acquired former Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim catcher Jett Bandy, if the Brewers can sign Weiters to a contract, he will be competing against Bandy for the starting catchers position with the team during Spring Training. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals are also interested in signing the former Baltimore Orioles catcher who will be playing for his second team in the Major Leagues since he made his debut in the Major Leagues in 2009 with the Orioles.

The Brewers let Lecroy go in a trade last season. Why would they pay Weiters anything but bargain basement? They aren't going anywhere.

I know what you mean. The Brewers are light years away from playoff contention with these bad deals.
