Day three (my, how time flies!): we are at #8 in my Favorite "Light" Songs series: "Blinding Light Show" by Triumph. Triumph (guitarist and vocalist Rik Emmett, bassist and keyboardist Mike Levine, drummer and vocalist Gil Moore) formed in Ontario, Canada, in 1975. Much like their Great White Northern counterparts Rush, Triumph showed heavy prog rock tendencies early on before morphing into a more radio friendly guitar and keyboard group. Between Canada and the United States, the trio has been awarded 18 Gold and nine Platinum records, and the band is in both the Canadian Music and the Canadian Music Industry Halls of Fame. Part of Triumph's appeal has always been, according to those with experience, their live concerts, which always featured an amazing (an understatement, from everything I've heard) light show, an experience so fantastic that Emmett wrote "Blinding Light Show" about it. The song, from their self titled 1976 debut (rereleased in 1995 as In the Beginning,) was not a hit (it wasn't released as a single.) It does, however, morph into the instrumental "Moonchild" for almost nine minutes of rock and roll goodness. Enjoy! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I have never heard of this band or the song but I gave it a listen. It wasn't too bad! :-)

They did other stuff later, such as "Magic Power," that was much more radio friendly. Good band.

Do they count as a hair band? I didn't realize they were Canadian.

Oh no, I wouldn't call them a hair band at all. They didn't look like girls, for one thing.

Ah, for the old days of freeform FM rock where they could play "bathroom break" songs like this instead of the "big hit" ("Lay It on the Line").

I know! My bathroom break songs were six minutes long, tops.

At nine minutes, I am not too surprised this didn't make it as a single!
