I've joined @teamfreak16 in the light, celebrating ten favorite songs with the word "light" in the title. Something that may surprise the casual readers here: he and I have done a number of themes concurrently, and we have never matched on a song. While I'm not a betting person, I can safely say this is one song we won't match on, either. #9: The Light Is On - Christopher Cross Gee, this looks like "guilty pleasure weekend." Yes, you may laugh and call me names and point, but I really enjoyed Christopher Cross' Grammy-winning debut album. That's not saying I enjoyed his later whiny "Think of Laura" song about the General Hospital heroine, but for me, his first album is a great, start-to-finish easy listening album. And I know this isn't a popular stance. Jimmy Buffett blasted Cross' song "Sailing" on an early episode of Late Night With David Letterman (on the NBC days), saying that Cross looked "like he can't tie a knot in a Hefty trash bag." (For the record, Buffett does own a sailboat and he can tie knots. There's photos of his sailboat on his "big album" Changes in Lattitudes, Changes in Attitudes.) Yeah, Cross wrote it in an apartment in Houston; and yes, like a lot of other songs by "flash-in-a-pan" artists, "Sailing" is played way, way too much. So ignore that song and listen to the rest of the album, such as this sweet song. Yes, I was listening to the Clash and the Ramones at the time, so this album was a nice change of pace. And if it isn't your cup of tea, I'm sorry. There's more rock coming down the line in this series. It's not exactly my cup of tea, but it actually was a good album.
