Inhuman parents and society

A little girl from a slum close to my residence works not only for her living but also because her mistress gives her some breakfast and lunch each day along with her monthly payment. Her mother and father are drunkards and waste all her and their money in drinking the country liquor. Aren't such parents irresponsible? Yet the other maid-servants(even the one that is working in my house) staying in that slum are at their butts to throw her out of her job and grab her job. Isn't this inhuman?

Really terrible. We see this happen here too. Parents receive funds for the children, but if these kids did not get breakfast and lunch at school, they would probably not be fed.

@TheHorse Yes, we are well aware and have attempted to be part of the solution for years. It seems to us things are worse now, not better.

Here at school children only get lunch and therefore they work as maids to get their breakfast and dinner.

@allknowing NGOs fear taking up this issue as these tribals are very violent.

Had the concerned authorities been so alert little girls would not have to go out and work. Where Adivasis of Rourkela are concerned, whose going to stop them from drinking? The district administration is helpless as their leaders support them.

That is beyond awful. In my country it is illegal for children to be put to work. I hope she keeps her job and can have a decent life.

@aninditasen If there were a very poor kid close to me (living near me, I mean), I might "hire" them to do small tasks and pay them "under the table," but I might also be wary, as some poor kids are taught to steal. I do work with such kids, and have for many years, but only in situations with clear boundares.

@TheHorse Yes, small tasks but not be overburdened with work that they get tired.Where children with stealing habits are concerned they should be put into remedial homes.

Sorry to learn about it. The government should interfere to stop such ugly things. And more important, there should be laws and regulations established, and education be conducted in communities.

Poor kid. Could her mistress help her create a bank account where she could squirrel away some of the money she makes? I've wanted to do that for the poor kids I work with.

Here in India a girl or boy has to reach the age of 18 to open a bank account.

That is very sad. No child should ever have to live like that. It breaks my heart to hear this.
