Do we have only one chance?

Is this life our one chance to do something meaningful with our lives that will bring eternal blessings or eternal losses? While with some things we have many chances? Do we at times have only one chance?
This post was inspired by a movie I saw last night on Netflix.
Paul Potts, an amateur opera singer had a big dream of being a professional opera singer but nothing seemed to go right in his life, well almost nothing. He did have an amazing wife who loved him no matter what and believed in him.
"One Chance" is a movie depicting his life leading up to his singing on "Britain's Got Talent".
Do we sometimes have only one last chance to do something?

The Titanic came to mind. Some people got off. Some did not even see the danger and lost their lives.

Yes, the movie is well made and the story is very delightful about a man that had a dream and even though just about everything went wrong, he still succeeded.

I don't really believe that as the ones that have said that to me were people trying to push me into something. In my life there have been many opportunities. There are others that say that we make our own opportunities.

@1hopefulman That's also true .
I think , when the opportunity comes sometimes, we are not anymore free to grab it .

I'm not sure. I've worked slowly and methodically, getting an advanced degree in child psychology, and working in difficult environments, to fulfill my dream of helping poor kids. Same with music. I'm no star, but I'm in a couple of decent bands and finally have some solo YouTube recordings out. For me it's just been hard work and perseverance.

Will you follow in the footsteps of Paul Potts? Could you give us the link to your YouTube as I don't know where it is now?
Looks like they made a movie about you.

When I saw the performance he gave on BGT, I was really moved. What a beautiful voice! Glad that things eventually worked out and he got to live his dream.
God gives each one of us many nudges (chances) in our lives to get on the road to everlasting life but sadly only a few accept. Many are invited but few are willing to do what it takes to qualify.

The wise person will make every chance count just in case it is his last. (See Matthew 7:13-14)

It does seem there are certain things we will only have one chance to do, such as-visit Rome when in Italy.
If we never return to Italy, we won't be able to visit Rome.
However, other chances to repeat themselves, like buying something on sale. We can wait for another sale.

Yes, both of your examples are good. Even Paul Potts could have gone to the next Britain Got Talent show. He could have had another chance.
Jesus pointed out that in Noah's day, most people lost their lives because they paid no attention to what Noah was doing and saying. They only had one chance and they blew it.
Like in Noah's day, the Bible is pointing that something similar is taking place. God is about to replace this world with a better one but most people are making no changes to show that they want to live in God's new world.
Matthew 24:3 King James Version (KJV) 3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

I have not seen the movie but i saw him perform on BGT. He had an amazing voice,. He worked in a shop before he went for the show. He was superb. Another young guy who could be the next Pavarotti given proper training his name is Jonathan Antoine have a listen to him. He nearly gave it all up because of the girl who went on the show with him he didnt want to let her down. I would go as far as to say he was better than Paul Potts.

I believe that we may have one chance at one thing at a given point in our lives but there are so many other things one could have dozens of chances at. Perhaps the one chance lost was for the best.

Yes that is true! We can think of some that missed to get on a plane and later the airplane crashes. I'm glad Paul Potts got his chance to become a professionl singer.

sometimes life seems to get away from us before we feel we've done anything of importance

Is there something that you would like to do? At this point in my life, I feel that I have done my best with everything and am at peace. I would like to change the world and bring peace but that is beyond my abilities. However, I do live peacefully and I do pray that God will do that one day.

I'm sure you will enjoy the movie. Just like Paul, by taking a chance, brought joy to many that enjoy his singing, we can also help many others by acts of kindness. We may not all have a great voice but e can all have a generous heart.
