Former Milwaukee Brewers infielder and outfielder Rickie Weeks has signed a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday.
Weeks, 34, has played in the Major Leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks since 2003.
Weeks played the 2016 baseball season with the Arizona Diamondbacks mostly as an outfielder and a pinch hitting role before his one year contract with the Diamondbacks expired at the end of the 2016 baseball season.
Weeks will have a chance to provide veteran leadership with the Rays since he can play both second base and outfield if he makes the team during the Spring Training sessions that begin next month.

Weeks used to be a productive player with Milwaukee as a starter. Now a utility player.

That is true. If he was signed to a minor league contract that means his prime is over.
