Day 149 Proverbs 17:8 Proverbs 17:8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turns, it prospers. Everyone likes presents. People spend days and hours in the stores looking for the perfect Christmas, birthday, anniversary, or special occasion gift. They want to make certain they get the one gift that is sure to make their special someone happy. You know how precious those gifts were that you received from your children. The homemade gifts that held a special place of honor in your home and heart. You wouldn’t trade that gift for the most precious gem available, if the opportunity presented itself. Why, because you can’t put a price on that kind of love. As king, Solomon received many gifts from the countries he had a truce with, but he said none compared to the special gift, no doubt from a friend or family member. He said having that gift caused prosperity. It prospered because the giver saw how important his or her gift was to him, more important than anything he could receive from someone he didn’t know. God also gives gifts to his children. His most precious gift to us is his Son, Jesus, born to be our Savior and free us from Satan’s chains. It is our gift of life. John 10:10 The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (KJV) Eternal life is yours. You only need to accept Jesus as your personal Savior and eternal life is yours. No strings attached. Along with eternal life, God also gives us other gifts. Grace and forgiveness, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and an inheritance with his Son, Jesus. There is no gift more precious than the one God gives you. It is priceless, yet you need to be careful as Satan will do all he can to take your gift from you. 1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these work that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. (KJV) Ephesians 4:7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. (KJV) Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Nothing compares with the gift God gives you and me when we accept Jesus as Savior and Lord. Have you made the decision to be his child, accepting his Son, as your Savior? God rejoices over every one of his children. Let him rejoice over you too, as you accept his gift of salvation. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for your gift of salvation, free not only to me, but everyone who accepts Jesus as Savior and Lord. Help me accept your gifts to me and give them a place of honor in my heart and home. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 4 February 2017 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

God's precious gift is worth more than silver or gold. When we leave this world we cannot take our riches with us and even if we try to, it would be of no use to us.

If you want anything, present a gift first, synonymous to bribery.
