Day 154 Proverbs 17:13 Proverbs 17:13 Whoso rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house. Do you know someone who is mean and abusive all the time? They laugh at your problems, and cause unnecessary trouble. No matter how nice you are, they can’t do anything good. Solomon said those kinds of people would always see trouble in their home. Jesus gave us the golden rule. Do to others as you would have them do to you. However, some people turn it inside out and make it ‘do to other before they do to you’. When you do that, no good will ever come of your life. Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. (KJV) Solomon also said we are to heap burning coals on our enemy’s heads. Simply put it means help them as much as possible. People would carry burning coals on their heads in the morning to light their fires. Proverbs 25:21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: 22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee. (KJV) Paul reiterated Jesus’ command. Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord. 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. When someone is mean to us, we want to be mean right back. That is not the Christian way. Throughout the Bible we are taught that vengeance belongs to God, not us. Let’s pray: Father, help me never to repay evil for the good done for me, but help me be kind to everyone, helping when I am able, and letting you take care of those who come against me for evil. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 9 February 2017 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

Matthew 7:12 says it all, most things we can't accept, we expect others to accept. An act of selfishness.

We should avoid those who are mean if that is all they know.
