Day 155
Proverbs 17:14
Proverbs 17:14 The beginning of strife is as when one lets out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.
Busybodies, otherwise known as meddlers, always look for something bad in a person or situation. They will always come forward to spread gossip and get a person in trouble when that person is innocent of any wrong doing.
One thing not lacking in Solomon’s life, was someone stirring up trouble or strife. His advice was to not have anything to do with it and people would be better off.
There is enough to keep a person occupied without looking for trouble or stirring it up.
In Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, he said you are to be peacemakers.
Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (KJV)
As Christians, your actions are to be above reproach. People will pay attention to everything you do, and if you go around causing trouble, they will not see any reason to change their ways. However, if you live your life in such a way that brings out Jesus in you, people will want what you have.
Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Your testimony as a Christian will be useless if you meddle in other peoples’ business. It’s time to let the light of Jesus shine through your lives and draw people to Jesus Christ instead of away from him. It’s time to be a peacemaker instead of a meddler.
Let’s pray: Father, help me be your light in the world and not a meddlesome busybody. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
