St Louis Cardinals general manager John Wozeliak said on Tuesday Cardinals right handed starting pitcher Michael Wacha could be in the starting rotation of the team if right handed pitcher Alex Reyes will need Tommy John surgery to repair an injury to his right elbow that will cause him to miss the entire 2017 baseball season.
Wacha struggled with a shoulder injury during the 2016 baseball season that limited his effectiveness as a starting pitcher with a record of seven wins and seven losses with an earned run average of 5.09 in 27 games pitched and 138 innings pitched which is not a good sign for the Cardinals to have an effective starting pitcher in 2017.
Mozeliak is keeping his fingers crossed that Wacha will be able to pitch pain free in 2017 since it would be painful for the Cardinals not to have two starting pitchers in 2017 due to injuries.

A big boost to the Cards if Wacha regains his form.

That is true since the Cardinals need all the help they can get.
