Do you really like to share your location with websites that you visit?

I have often gone to a site online that gives a pop up that asks me if I want to share my location with the site. I sometimes don't mind sharing this but tell me, what's to keep them from knowing my location without me clicking on that popup? Is this some kind of statistical thing? Or is there something more to it than just location based statistics by you and me as a simple casual visitor to a site? It's called Geolocation: Interesting enough, I have been asked at times, while paying at a register what my zip code is. This must be basically the same thing.

It's all part of their marketing scheme. I've noticed the site will direct me to vendors in my area who carry their merchandise if I allow them to use my location.

We really are not happy about anyone following us online, asking about locations, etc. In today's world, we might not always be able to hide!

Sometimes, when I am online I will allow it, depending on the circumstances. Usually, I chose not to.

I don't particularly like doing that.
