Hello...my Lot friends...I hope you enjoyed Valentines Day! I did.I built a terrarium out of an old gallon jar I found in the basement. The project was easy and fun for me to do. I washed out the jar with dish soap and bleach and let it dry while I painted the lid bright pink with acrylic paint.I sprayed a little glass cleaner inside and out of the jar and wiped it with paper towel to make the old jar sparkle.I took 4 cups of potting soil and a small section of flowers and packed the flower roots into the potting soil.I then took one cup of water and poured it around the rim circle of the potting soil for moisture. I added a yard art ceramic fairy I found at a dollar store and broke up a group of plastic pink roses and valentines on a stem and placed them around the flowers and fairy.I put a pink ribbon and a note to my friend and delivered it as a gift for the holiday. She exclaimed it looked so pretty! It was heartwarming.I explained to her about care and maintenance of the terrarium as she had concerns it might die. Open the jar once a week for a few minutes to let new oxygen in and kill microbes like mold, and water when you no longer see condensation on the inside of the glass. I know about 30 years ago terrariums were very popular in floral stores. They put ferns, plants, mosses and tropical flowers in closed glass sealable containers and succulents such as cactus or flowers requiring more light in open glass containers.i hope some of you like this idea and use your imagination and give it a try.The glass provides light and heat and the closed container provides humidity. Larger terrariums made from wood frames and glass are used to transport plants all around the world. I challenge the indoor gardener to try herbs and spices as well.Have fun! Let me know what you think of this unique household adornment project. Please post your own creations.

It is hard to see what it looks like in the photo but it sounds really neat. I have never had anything like this or seen anything like what you describe. What a nice gift for your friend.

Wow! That is a nice project! Hmmm! I haven't tried making a terrarium yet but I love gardening. I might try that too in my free time and I hope it will be as nice as yours.
