Why fan fiction effing blows

Short rant. Fanfiction sucks. There I've said it. I mean you're probably most likely never gonna meet whoever your a fan of anyway, so why bother putting yourself in the story, in the words of William Shatner: get a life!
You will never catch me writing any fanfiction, I mean unless it involves David Duchovny being chained to my bed as my personal slave, lol. But it ain't gonna happen.
Fanfiction blows mostly because what I have read it's very poorly written. Too hard to read. I have had to muddle through more crap just to get to the good stuff. Enough with the flavor of the month people! I guess I'm just emo. Plus also being a librarian, I get sick of all the bandwagon jumping.
So I give the fanfiction the much deserved eff you middle finger.
Keep on keepin on...

I started writing fanfiction 12 years ago. It was a lot of fun exploring my style of writing and trying to figure out what kind of topics were popular or not. I have no idea what you're talking about concerning adding yourself to the story though. Fiction written by fans. Following a story you care about and expanding it or taking the characters to different places.
The most popular fanfic that everyone knows by name out there is 50 Shades of Grey. That was her fic she wrote with twilight characters originally, and then she made it original. It probably should have stayed a fanfic though.
I really enjoyed those days, but I haven't felt compelled to return in a long time.

@librarygeek1980 I think the stuff on Wattpad is probably pretty youthful since it is a younger site. I'm sure you might find some better content on the older sites like fanfiction.net (where I used to release stories). People went crazy back then and were dwarfing novels. My one story had 36 chapters when I stopped, and over 150,000 words. I wanted to finish, but I never was able to.

@OneOfMany thanks, I may have to check that one out, considering that's one of the reasons why I stopped with wattpad, I got tired of interacting with teens and young twenty somethings :)

I agree, 50 shades series should have stayed a fan fiction. I'll admit, I haven't even tried to read a fan fiction in about 3 years, and it's mostly what little I've read on Wattpad. To me, it's run its course. Thanks for commenting!

In the words of the great Levar Burton (Reading Rainbow, Star Trek, the next Generation, Roots) you don't have to take my word for it, lol
