So Much For Having My Nails Done ;-)

I went to a beauty salon last Saturday to have my fingernails polished nicely, as I haven't had them polished in over a year. I chose the color lilac and what do you know the manicure expert liked it too. My nails got done in about 30 minutes and were completely dry in about an hour.
I so enjoyed looking at my shiny lilac nails the entire weekend.... Until Monday came and I found myself doing the regular load of housework. Oh, look.... a chipped nail! Then another scuff on another nail the following day.
Today is Wednesday and I've got 4 chipped fingernails already. LOL. I think I'll just have my toenails polished next time. My hands are perpetually busy with housework and other things, them fingernails probably can't afford to have a long-term relationship with colored nail polish.

It's easy and cheap to have them done again. But the fume/scent emitted by the polish gives me inflammation in the deepest recesses of my nasal cavity. I wonder if anyone has invented "unscented" nail polish??

It really is supposed to protect the outer coating of the nail. But I guess it doesn't fare well against frequent hand washing.

Heck I wish I could get my nails to grow nice and pretty and healthy. I have my toes painted red right now. I like the liliac color I like any purple color.

I wish I could grow my fingernails long too, but long nails are such a hassle when you have chores to do and kids to take care of. Do try the lilac polish -- it's really pretty!

That's exactly the reason why I also never have my fingernails done anymore. They would chip off after just a few days and they look ugly to look at with those chipped off color.
And just like you I just have my pedicure. But I do it myself because I don't like to repeat that experience of having it done at the salon and they overdid the cleaning of a toenail, it swelled and have to take antibiotic to cure it.

@almostoveryou Really you had a surgery for it? Me it just became swollen, so the doctor gave antibiotics. And the swelling dried and subsided.
It was a lesson learned for me.

Oh I know what you mean. I used to have my nails done by somebody else. But after getting a toe infection and eventually having the nail surgically removed, I never had pedicure done by anyone anymore. It's been 9 years since I had the surgery, and since then I've always made sure to do my own toenails.

@SIMPLYD Yes, I had surgery. According to the doctor, it's the best way to ensure that the infection wouldn't get worse. Indeed, a lesson learned.

Doing a lot of housework can ruin the nail polish. Need to protect your nails from chipping.

@almostoveryou You can try it. Do you think it's stronger?

I wonder if nail stickers fare better than the polish? :o)

I also do the simple nail polish treatment sometimes.
It is very cheap and if you get chipped nails in the first 24 hours you can go back to the salon and they will fix it for free.
I would recommend using gloves for the houseworks, the water and the cleaning products can damage the nails and the hands.

@almostoveryou Some people don't like using gloves, I hope it works for you. Just be careful not to use them on the first few hours as they might damage the nail polish.

@besweet I think I'm okay with gloves. I use them more often for gardening and yard work.

It's something that women enjoy together, isn't it? I like it too when I'm in a salon and many other women are having their nails done as well.
