The temple at Nikko, Japan, is very famous throughout Japan, although perhaps not to the world at large. This is one of the places we visited on our honeymoon in Japan, so I thought I would share some pictures that I took. There are several buildings in the temple complex, as well as some other features, like a zen rock garden (the kind with the raked gravel), gates and statuary. The complex is situated in a beautiful, serene forest setting among massive old trees, as can be seen in this photo of the temple complex and my photo in Part 1 of the entrance gate.

This does look pretty and I bet the Zen garden would be beautiful to see. Do you have any photos of that?

For some reason, I didn't take a photo of that. Not sure why. It looked similar to this, though.

Beautiful place, from the photos I've seen. I still think of Kung Fu movies when I see it, however. It just has that same look.

@teamfreak16 - Of course the Chinese films say kung fu is better, lol. In my dojo, we also taught kung fu and tai chi, which I thought was nice and inclusive, but it was different people who took different styles, and nobody even mixed with each other except that I became friends with a couple of the kung fu people. I even dated the sifu very briefly, but he turned out to be a jerk, so that was that.

@AliCanary - Oh yeah. I forgot. In the movies they always argue (and fight) about which style is better. Love it! These photos are great!

And the trees are so beautiful in the background surrounding this most awesome place.

Those trees are actually hundreds of years old--as old as the temple.

I found the whole place quite magical! I had never heard of the place like we've all heard of Kyoto, for example, but it's quite famous within the country. I studied Japanese history in college, so it was very interesting to be walking around in it!

Looks vintage and zen-like.

I'll say it's vintage--17th century, I think! But also my photos look pretty faded in the scans, so that definitely adds to the vintage effect.

They are amazing, and nothing like that in my country. I'm glad I saw them!

It would have been more serene if it hadn't been so crowded, but it certainly is beautiful!
