Non-smokers do exist - I have seen them!

And seeing how I was on a roll with the casino theme -
Sometimes at the casino my friend's parents are able to get free concert tickets at the casino - I have been able to enjoy their generosity several times. At one such occasion I was walking along the casino floor and a young man came up to me. He asked me for a "smoke". (Smoking is allowed on casino grounds because it's on a reservation and there are different rules.) I politely said No, I don't smoke. He looked like I had slapped him across the face. He looked horrified. He looked like I had grown wings. He followed me several minutes before getting bored with it. At one point I turned around and said "I'm sorry but I really don't smoke, so I don't have any cigarettes to share" because he was starting to creep me out and I thought the longer explanation might satisfy him. For the longest time I wondered about that. Sure the guy seemed totally intoxicated, but he still seemed like he couldn't grasp the idea that someone should be a non-smoker.

Most assume one is a smoker when they're at a casino because they could freely smoke there!

@FayeHazel Yes and I've seen some rude ones who blow their smoke into the faces of pregnant employees.
Although the pregnant employee can't do anything they dress differently with a pregnancy black gown in front like what you wear during an X-ray but lighter fabric. But some men would have the common curiosity to below smoke toward a different direction.. however others don't care.

@infatuatedbby That's a shame. - In fact that almost sounds like harassment. Where do you work? I always admired somewhat the "polite" smokers who go out of their way not to torment anyone else.

He must've been drunk. I wonder if there are casinos for non-smokers?
I quit after 40 years, just decided one day that I was sick of it. That was almost 5 months ago. When I smoked I was breathing just fine but now that I've quit I have a lot of problems breathing. I hope it gets better with time but even if I really could breathe better when I smoked I won't start again. I've saved about $900 since I quit!

Oh wow! Congratulations of quitting. $900 is a lot - savings for your health and your wallet. Maybe your breathing issues are because of your lungs clearing out? Just a thought, I hope it clears up for you. There is a non-smoking section in the casinos I've been to - but it kind of doesn't work - the smoke goes in there anyway

It was funny, maybe he was more drunk than I thought... it seemed like an entirely new idea to him

I guess when that happens to me, I would get scared of that guy. If he gets persistent like that, I may find a help to deter him from asking for a smoke, when I have told him, I don't smoke.

I think he was merely interested in you. So glad I quit smoking 44 years ago on leap year day. Never took another puff. But if it was safe, non smelly and cheap to do so, I would take it up again in a minute. I loved smoking.
