Every medication pill under the sun is considered to be the 'cure all, end all' of problems; right? Wrong! Especially if a little common sense is used. Fifteen million Americans have scrips for Acid Reflux spending $10 billion for them. A new study at Johns Hopkins now state side affects can cause Kidney shut down and with no warning signs.
Doctors recommend taking the pills no more than three times a year; 8 weeks for prescription meds and 2 weeks for over-the-counter meds. If people used common sense, they wouldn't get Acid Reflux.
First of all, your stomach has a certain amount of acid in it to break down the food you are ingesting. Secondly, if you are 'wolfing' down your food, the acid in your stomach is trying to break down those huge chunks you are sending to it and 'splooshing' the acid upwards.
It doesn't take an Einstein or a rocket scientist to figure out what you need to do. If spicy foods upset your stomach; stop eating the damn things. Take the time to take smaller bites and CHEW them thoroughly (allow the acid in your stomach to do its job).
The Cure - If you do get Acid Reflux, cure it the natural way. A tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in a cup of water with a little honey and drink it. You can do this before a meal, during a meal, after a meal or at bed time.

@AbbyGreenhill Some have found drinking a bit of baking soda water daily also works. Research online shows this is especially helpful for females with other issues too.

@PatZAnthony I have enough stomach issues and I know if I tried to drink vinegar or baking soda I would not react well at all.

But with the water and honey it would change the strength of the vinegar @AbbyGreenhill . It would still be effective but without the bitterness.

Doing things naturally is always the best way.
Many are stubborn about this. They want a pill. They will not change their menu or add apple cider vinegar. Stubborn humans then have to take more medicine b/c of what the first pill did. (You know all of this).

@PatZAnthony As long as the food that is loaded with chemicals, pesticides, steroids and hormones don't kill us first.

Yup, the US has become a nation of pill-poppers @PatZAnthony . Because it's quick and simple and they don't have to bother with taking the time to change it. And they wonder why they get sicker and sicker.

In most cases you are probably right but my daughter and I were both born having acid reflux. I choke all the time when I drink so I think there is a weak muscle in my throat which allows the stomach acid to come up. My daughter had to take medicine for it as a baby as it would choke her and cause her to stop breathing as well as projectile vomit.

Yup, you're right @shaggin . It sounds like the muscle at the Esophageal Airway is weak. I don't even know if there is something they could do to fix that.

@nanette64 Not that I know of. I know the elderly residents in the hospital have to have thickener added to their drinks as their muscles get weaker so they choke while swallowing. I am sure I will be one they will make take thickener someday lol

Some times they are essential I would be wary of advising someone stopping taking proton pump inhibitors as it could lead to epigastric or oesophageal haemorrhage! I have witnessed too many gastric bleeds and it is not nice not to mention the pain the person is going through!

It has gotten out of hand @delhshop . Pharmaceutical companies make a fortune and doctors get a cut of the action by prescribing everything.
