Do You Like to Read The Comic Strips?

Do you enjoy reading the comic strips that come in the Sunday paper? I used to look at a few of them, but I don’t even GET the Sunday paper anymore. One of the longest running comic strips of all time was the “Katzenjammer Kids,” which was created by Rudolph Dirks in 1897. As far as I know, this comic strip is still running in some newspapers. Here’s another interesting tidbit of information: Did you know that Walt Disney, Ernest Hemingway, W. Somerset Maugham and Dashiell Hammett were all ambulance drivers in World War I? And it was Dr. Seuss (Ted Geisel) who created the first color animated commercial for Ford in 1949. Who knew?

I always liked The Family Circus in the paper. I don't take the paper anymore either.

Comic strips were always worth looking at, as I remember. Sometimes they really had something profound to say.

I did not know that abut Dr Seuss. My oldest kids had all of his books. They passed them down to the younger children and than to the grandchildren.

I loved looking at the comics when I was little. There was Dagwood, Baby Huey and others. One thing I really enjoyed doing was pressing my Silly Putty on the comics. Remember that?

I used to really like the strip "Bringing Up Father", which had to do with working class Irish immigrants in the United States who suddenly become wealthy. I know it was around in the early 1900s, because I used to look up the microfilms of the local newspaper to read the comic. I'm not sure when it stopped running, I know if was still around in the 1980s.

Not sure I remember "Bringing Up Father" but it sounds like it would have been an interesting strip. Some comic strips had very profound things to say. I do remember that.
