The Dallas Mavericks have released guard Deron Williams on Thursday. Williams who is now a free agent would have to clear the waiver wire but he is a favorite to be picked by the defending National Basketball Association (NBA) champions the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers who are in contention to make another playoff run are in need of the services of Deron Williams, 32, who would be joining LeBron James who was his teammate at Team USA Basketball.
If the Cavaliers pick up Williams from the waiver wire, he would serve as Kyrie Irving's backup during the remainder of the 2016-17 NBA basketball season.
That would ease up the concerns of James who wants to have a better supporting cast so his team can make another run at the NBA Finals later this year.

To think DWill was once considered a premiere point guard.
