Do you spend enough time with your family?

Almost a year ago my sister was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. It shook the whole family up and made us all realise how important it is to spend as much time with our loved ones as we can because when things are going well we never give a thought of what may be round the corner. She has nearly finished her chemotherapy and radiotherapy now and all seems to be going well but when she says 'well if I get another 5 years out of this I'll be happy,' it brings tears to my eyes because to me 5 years is such a short time. My family used to go long periods without seeing each other but now we make a real effort to spend more time together because if there's one thing this has taught us it's that life can change in the blink of an eye and tomorrow isn't promised.

I don't spend enough time with my parents and siblings and their families. I'm on the other side of the country from most of them, so it's hard to see them. Travel is expensive. My mom has Alzheimer's though and will be turning 75 soon, so there's not really much time left.

That must be awful for you. My mum had dementia at the end of her life but she could remember who I was and I lived in the same town as her so could visit her often.

@sprite1950 Yeah, it's hard. My dad wants to move into town because he thinks it will be better for her, I think he's looking for some sort of assisted living situation since they're both elderly.

@spiderdust He would need some help with her and you've got your own family to think about even though I'm sure you would want to help out a bit. How bad is she? Would she know you?

I'm so sorry about your sister. You're right, life is short and family is very precious.

Go just pray in Jesus name may your sister have a quick and complete recovery, amen! Many are now surviving cancer. I know it is hard to deal with but I do believe that nothing is impossible in prayers. I know someone who has only free months to live but through prayers and strong faith that she has in Jesus, she is now recovering and a survivor, she even have hairs now. God bless.

Yes she is doing well and her hair has started to grow back. That was the hardest part for her but she wears hats and scarves and looks the best she can. She didn't get any sickness just fatigue so she says it could have been worse. She's been really brave.
