Suspicious Minds or just being Curious?

Unfortunately we live in an age of FAKE NEWS that is generated by one-sided and suspicious minded people who create news that has no foundation in truth. When FAKE NEWS is reported it is sometimes the cause of DOUBT in the minds of those who read it. This is why it is so very important that when any reporter tells of TRUTH in the news, he or she should follow the simple laws of honesty and integrity and factual reporting. Do you think we are living in an age where the NEWS could in fact be FAKE NEWS? or Do you think that TRUTH in the news is given a bad rap based on the fact that certain people in the news are saying that reporters make stuff up all the time? From what I heard just by talking to other people in the real world, not online, many are afraid that they do not completely believe anything they see in the local or national news on t.v. or in the news paper, and many of them are upset with all of the negative news that has been crammed down their throats lately. Some say that social media sites are the prime culprit of this new generation of false news or unsubstantiated reporting and that is no different than gossip but the fact is, social media is the next wave of word of mouth news. And if just one person spreads a lie he or she may be putting the very security of this country in danger. Social media is often used to some degree to at least start a video going viral by showing something that in and of itself is misleading or just plain outrageious or too stupid to be true, due to it only showing intermediate activity that may or may not result in a violent act that possibly results in doing some person physical harm or create an altercation that results in a liability case. For every video posted on social media or for that matter on the local or national news, remember that things might have happened before, and after that video that would completely change the story. Often times, removing or editing such a video might invalidate it or discredit it in a court of law but moreover, showing what happened after a policeman shot somebody can make it look like cold blooded murder when in fact, the part about the suspect trying to grab the officer's gun to shoot him that took place before the camera was rolling, so to speak would be telling people a lie and be misleading, it might generate hostility between people over the suspicion of the single act of a shooting. Such a video going viral or a story that is totally untrue or one-sided being posted on YouTube or Facebook can and will quite often make it necessary for everyone to spend hours searching for a variation of a story just to find out if it is a fact or a fiction and meantime the real news is missed altogether. By the time the truth is found out and a fake news story is taken down, the seeds of doubt and suspicion based on misrepresentation or leaving out some pertinent facts, are already planted deeply in the person's mind. People who first thought they were reading the truth but later find out it was all a lie have to live with the consequences of having been mislead and it leads them to be more distrusting of the source of such FAKE NEWS from then on. FAKE NEWS wherever it comes from can give a bad reputation to certain otherwise legitimate news sources and this damages the public's confidence in just about all of the news they see day after day as it is churned out like so much fast food. This can and often does, lead to people just wanting to ignore most of the news just because they are sick and tired of the sensationalism. The end result of FAKE NEWS however mundane or trivial it may seem at first glance, creates a sense of indifference and apathy toward most or all news. This is very bad thing.
If the Colorado newspaper files a lawsuit, legal experts say it would be the first of its kind, potentially setting a legal definition for what is considered fake news and what is not.

I reasonably trust the BBC - they report stuff that paints them in a bad light on occasion. I do not trust Fox News, as the only time I hear about them is when they tell lies about Britain (I'm British) then claim they didn't check their facts, when it's pretty obvious they just made stuff up not realising that in the internet age news gets spread outside your own country.

Was there a time you trusted the news to be more honest and true before social media came along?

@lookatdesktop I can't really say that social media affects my opinion on anything. Probably because I don't use it as such. I post links, primarily to my own stuff, and that's it. Most of that is done without actually visiting the sites in question. If I could afford to outsource it out so I didn't have to use social media at all, I would. It simply doesn't interest me.

@egdcltd I don't trust the most popular social media for the news. I still rely mainly on the news as it is reported on the top 5 leading television broadcast stations, which of course all have apps for their online sites .

As someone who does not really listen to the News very much I neither believe or disbelieve what they say. Where I come from they say "take it with a pinch of Salt" meaning don´t believe everything you hear or see. However sometimes you can see straight through a supposedly true Story and back again.

Fake smake! For most people, the “news” only has the importance or significance they attach to it. Report something in the media that a person thinks is going to have a severe adverse impact on their daily life and they will bend over backwards to get to the real facts! People be like: Say what? Do you take me for a fool? At one time in my life, I actually stopped listening to the news. It was too much information overload. (Or possibly misinformation. Couldn't tell.) Didn't stop listening for months but for several years. It was too much stuff. It was messing with my head. But then I started up again and guess what? I picked up on the continuation of the “global soap opera” and carried on. For the period I had not heard the news reports? Oh well! It's history now. I can do research and look it up in the records. Yep. Imagine that. No news for years? It's true. I'm not making it up. It's not FAKE. That's why I'm not getting all worked up over this brew ha ha regarding fake news.

I am sick of Fake News. In a perfect world , the newscasters would express both side of true news and let the listener determine what they think is right, instead of letting newscasters just blab out their preferences.

@lookatdesktop anthony, I believe at times when people write fake news they just have to have something to write so make it up so can get out there but when the truth comes out they look very fool. I have read things where one person said one thing and anther said another so who do you beiieve and also before you print something do not write bits and pieces write the whole truth and not show favortism to one side.
