Day 171 Proverbs 18:10 Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runs into it, and is safe. What’s in a name? Shakespeare said a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Parents choose names with strength and virtue as their meaning. My own means strong. What about your name, do you know what it means? In his wisdom, Solomon said God’s name was like a strong tower and anyone could find safety with him. God has one name, all the others are his characteristics, his personality. Just as you have one name, and people know you by your many character traits, so is God known for his. God’s name is I AM. When God told Moses to lead his people out of Egypt, Moses asked God for his name. God told him his name is I AM. Exodus 3:13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? What shall I say unto them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. Jesus told the Jews who he was when they said he had a devil. John 8:51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. 52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou say, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. 53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? And the prophets are dead: whom make thou thyself? 54 Jesus answered, If I honor myself, my honor is nothing: it is my Father that honors me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: 55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. 57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. 59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. Jesus also told the soldiers who came for him in the Garden of Gethsemane who he was. John 18:3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came thither with lanterns and torches and weapons. 4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? 5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. 6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. 7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. 8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way: The power of Jesus’ name, caused the soldiers to fall to the ground. God’s name is only given to God, showing that God and Jesus are one. John 10:30 I and my Father are one. (KJV) God has many names depicting all of who he is, and I’m quite certain we only know a partial list of his names. What are God’s names, and what do they mean? Elohiym, pronounced el-o-heem, is the first character trait of God in the Bible. It means Supreme God and shows the plurality of God as Creator, mighty, and strong. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (KJV) John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. (KJV) God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit also known as the Trinity. All three were visible at creation. Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (KJV) Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. Jehovah Elohiym – LORD God – Self-existent, eternal God Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (KJV) El Eloah means God, mighty strong and prominent. El also shows other characteristics of God: power, integrity, jealousy, and compassion. In Nehemiah’s prayer to God, acknowledging the hardness of the people, he showed the qualities of God. Nehemiah 9:17 And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsook them not. El Shaddai means God Almighty, the Mighty one of Jacob. His is the ultimate power over everyone and everything. Adonai means Lord. Yahweh or YHWH, also Jehovah means LORD and is God’s name as given to Moses as I AM THAT I AM. When you see LORD in all caps it is his name. Jehovah Jireh means the LORD our provider Jehovah Rapha – the LORD our healer Jehovah Nissi – the LORD our banner Jehovah M’Kaddesh – the LORD who sanctifies, makes holy Jehovah Shalom – the LORD our peace Yahweh Elohiym – LORD God – signifies he is LORD of Lords Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 And out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. Jehovah Tsidkenu – the LORD our righteousness Jehovah Rohi – the LORD our shepherd Jehovah Shammah – the LORD is there Jehovah Sabaoth – the LORD of hosts El Elyon – Most High El Roi – God sees El Olam – Everlasting God El Gibhor – Mighty God You might recognize some of those meanings about our Savior from the familiar scripture used at Christmas when we celebrate Jesus’ birth. Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (KJV) There will come a day when you, like those soldiers, will fall on your knees and acknowledge Jesus as KING of KINGS and LORD of LORDS. Will it be as knowing him or as having rejected him? Philippians 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (KJV) If you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, your acknowledgment brings eternal life. If, however, you rejected Jesus as Savior and Lord, your acknowledgment brings eternal damnation. Let’s pray: Father, you are my Creator, my LORD and I give you praise for who you are in my life. Help me never forget your name or the power and authority you have in my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 26 February 2017 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

Thank you. I had a hard time getting it done. Satan was doing his best to make it difficult for me to get it studied and posted, which was why it was so late in the day before I could get it posted. I haven't had that much opposition from him since I did a study on him so people would know who Satan is and what his agenda is. That was a very hard week for me with very bad headaches and flu like symptoms. But I got that study done and presented in Sunday School.
