Bar Dancers move the Apex Court in India

The Bar Dancers, waitresses, singers, under the title ' Bharatiya Bar dancer Union' have challenged the prohibition of dance by women in Bar, Restaurants, and Bar Rooms challenging the 2016 State Law. The protection of Dignity of Women Act, 2016 of Maharashtra is prohibits such dances by women. The union says it is arbitrary and violative of their right to earn money for their livelihood through legitimate means. They also say that the Act though aims and targets the women performing obscene dances, they are being harassed unnecessarily under the title 'obscene' as they mostly do in wedding and other function and that the act of getting tips as an appreciation is only customary which does not deserve any serious consideration and leads to obscenity.
