Former Los Angeles Dodgers right handed relief pitcher Joe Blanton has signed a one year, $4 million dollar salary plus $1 million in incentives with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.
Blanton, 36, became a free agent at the end of the 2016 Major League Baseball season when the Dodgers decided to let him enter the free agent market.
Perhaps his age was a factor that a lot of teams in the Major Leagues were not knocking down his door to offer despite his impressive body of work with the Dodgers in the 2016 Major League Baseball season.
Blanton pitched in 75 games in relief for the Dodgers with a pitching record of seven wins and two losses with an earned run average of 2.48 in over 80 innings pitched.
Blanton will be trying out to see which role in the Nationals relief pitching team he will be on during Spring Training.

The Dodgers wanted Blanton back so the issue must have been salary. After the heavy signings plus Romo, they probably wanted Blanton at less bucks than he got.

The salary demand may have been the reason Blanton left the Dodgers.
