After a night off (if you had been there you would definitely understand) I'm back home, watching the weather (I have the Weather Channel [live for a change, not showing reruns of some old show] on TV and a Little Rock TV station on my computer), praying hard, and ready to give you my second-favorite song from the world of songs that have "dog" or "cat" in the title. We're all done with the doggies, so the last two songs are going to wake you up at 4 AM rubbing its tail under your nose...figuratively speaking, of course. Here's the next song.
#2: Cool For Cats - Squeeze
Yeah, nobody saw this one coming, right?
I've mentioned before, and any time this band's name comes up (and that includes if someone talks about squeezing pimples!) I'll repeat, this band should have been gigantic in the US. As it is, they had one top 40 hit ("Hourglass") and a couple of other songs to make the "hot 100" chart (including the classic "Tempted"). Just cannot understand US music tastes sometime. Yowza, yowza, yowza? You could've had Squeeze!
This great song features the unusual move of Chris Difford singing lead (usually the lead singer was Glenn Tilbrook, or when Jools Holland was in the band and would sing). He wasn't the best singer in the band, but for this lighthearted song his voice is perfect.
The misfortunes of a guy who's trying to be with the "in" crowd (apologies to Ramsey Lewis) are detailed as he heads out to a bar for an evening ("I give a little muscle and I'll spend a little cash but all I get is bitter and a nasty little rash"), finally taking a girl home ("I'm invited in for coffee and I'll give the dog a bone...I said, 'I'll see you later,' and I give her some more chat").
Love Squeeze. Love this song.

Yes! (I was just going to say Yes! and leave it at that, because that says it all, but I love Squeeze.)

You mean you were "Tempted" to just say yes and go!

So quintessential 80s new wave. Squeeze were a good band and they did get plenty of air play on the alternative rock station here.
