The New England Patriots have no plans to trade their backup quarterback Jimmy Garappolo to another football team in the National Football League before the start of the 2017 regular football season. The Patriots intend to keep Garappolo as the backup quarterback to Tom Brady who is 39 years of age. Brady intends to return to lead the Patriots in the defense of their Super Bowl championship in 2017. Garappolo started two games for the Patriots in the 2016 regular football season when Brady was suspended four games by officials of the National Football League for the Deflategate scandal. The Patriots want to have an insurance policy in case Brady suffers an injury during the next football season. The fun will begin at the end of the 2017 football season when Garappolo's rookie contact that he signed in 2014 will expire. The Patriots have to make the decision whether to keep Garappolo on their roster or let him go after 2017.

Garappolo must have made a positive impression for his work.

Jimmy did impress the Patriots coaches in his two starts with the team in 2016.
