After sparing my digestive tract from the thoughts of a horrible song for a day (thanks to driving home from Chicago and the subsequent storms last night) it's time for another horrible song from the world of country music. This one is particularly egregious because of the participants. Grab your Gaviscon, here it is.
#4: Honky Tonk Badonkadonk - Trace Adkins
Amid all that Garth & Shania rock and roll passing as country in the 90s here came Trace Adkins with that gorgeous song "Every Light in the House Is On." Steel guitar! Sounds country!! What happened!?
I asked the same thing when I heard the atrocious, sexist "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk." Apparently, according to Picky Wedia, badonkadonk is a slang term for a woman's rear end. However, given that the majority of country music customers (not "fans," but the people who buy CDs or downloads) are women, they couldn't have called this "Low Class Ladies' Ass," so they gave it the stupid name instead....with an even dumber analogy (comparing a woman's backside by saying she's "got it going on like Donky Kong").
And the "they" is also a heartbreaker: one of the writers of this piece of garbage is Jamey Johnson, one of the more recent "neo-traditionalists" hailed as a suitable alternative to the "cute hat boys" in mainstream country. (Seriously, he covered Meat Loaf's "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" for the Imus Ranch fundraising project, and you'd never know, listening to his version, that it was ever anything but a country song. He's that good.)
Put it all together and it's bad-oink-a-dung.
Honky Tonk Badonkadonk
Written by Dallas Davidson, Randy Houser, and Jamey Johnson
Recorded by Trace Adkins
From Songs About Me, 2005
As I said, this is more disappointing because of how Trace Adkins made his initial mark in country music:

I have to agree with you on this one. It was way too overplayed too. I would cringe everytime it played anywhere.
