Not remembering what you read ...does it carry any meaning?

I have been reading many books. Both subjects and fictions. Already was reading some poems...though were not my favorites. Just passing each page became a regular habit. As days went on the volume of reading has increased ....but what about the value and quality of the reading? I do not know. Started reading a book and throwing it off to a corner. Somebody was asking to say something about what I have read. The question really baffled me. I could not tell anything about what I have read. But, I know pretty well I read it and enjoyed it while reading. The only thing that pinched me was not remembering at least something what I had read. Is there any meaning really if I can not recollect the at least the content of the book. It demanded some serious strategy to remember the things. The first lesson I learned was to read the content list to see what contents the books is actually dealing with. I raised some questions for myself relating to each content jotting them down on a paper. Then started reading whether there is anything that gives an answer to the question. The second rule I learned was to note down the gist of what I read as a food one or as a side note that too in my own language. This is a very important thing as just repeating the sentences and words in the side note are similar to copying the paragraphs. Searching for the references then and there itself in the case of certain expression which are difficult to understand without spending too much time with them. The final and important way to remember the things read is to apply how far the contents and the texts are useful for my life and to note them down. I really found the amazing result and prompted me to make a post about it. This has not only helped to increase the vocabulary but also the way of expression and the perspective to view life differently than a boring routine.

I read a book for 10 pages or so. If I do not follow it usually means that I am not interested in reading it. Sometimes it so happens that we might be interested to read the same book a few days later as we are pre-occupied with too many things on our minds. My favourite times to read a book would be during train journeys.
