How do you feel when you can't help a person?

When some family member, friend or simply some stranger asks you for some information and you have no idea how you can help them... How do you feel? I know that I have no obligation to know everything, this is obvious... But I get a little dissatisfied with myself because I always like to help when they need it.

Even if I cannot supply an accurate answer, I would at least offer what information or advice that I could.

Sometimes I will feel sorry and even guilty to it.

I also like helping people if i can but, if someone has a problem and needs help but i have no way of helping them, i may refer them to someone who might be able to so, i don't see why i should feel bad at all.

I think I feel embarrassed and as though I should be able to respond to their needs.

I think saying them that you don't know about their concern is still considered help. At least, they will be aware of it and try to find others who can help them.

Sometimes I am able to help someone BUT if I do I would be enabling them to be a bum, I try to push them out to work, to get it on their own. As far as setting up a t.v. for an older person, yeah I will do that.
